Clearance golf apparel
End-of-season pricing is real value on some categories and a trap on others.
Golf apparel goes on clearance for predictable reasons: the season ended, the colour did not sell, or the brand changed its pattern. Only one of those should make you hesitate.
Buy freely
- Bottoms in neutral colours. Black, navy and white skorts do not date, and you will wear them until they wear out.
- Layers. Vests and quarter-zips are discounted every spring and are identical to next year's.
- Socks, gloves, towels. Consumables. Stock up.
- Last season's shoes, if the size is right. Golf shoe technology moves slowly.
Think twice
- Anything at the extreme ends of a size run. The reason the smallest and largest sizes remain is often that the brand cut them badly.
- Strong prints. They were discounted because most people did not want them, and you may join that majority by June.
- A brand you have never worn, in a fitted style. Clearance is usually final sale. Learn a brand's fit at full price on something forgiving.
Check the return policy first
Clearance and final sale travel together. If a discounted item cannot be returned, you are buying your own size estimate as well as the garment — so only do it in a brand whose fit you already know, or in a cut with enough give to absorb an error.
The timing
Deepest discounts on summer apparel land in late autumn; on outerwear, in early spring. Buying a season ahead costs nothing but patience.
